What tennis level are you?

If you sign up for a beginner’s coaching session, your coach would expect you to be exactly that: a beginner! You may not have played the game before, and you are unlikely to be familiar with technical shots or game tactics. What our coaches like to see is a passion for sport and a willingness to learn. It also helps to have a basic level of fitness so that you can move around the court.

To take you from a beginner to an intermediate tennis player, there are a number of skills you'll want to get to grips with. You'll need to gain an understanding of the basic techniques, movements and rules of the game, including: forehand, backhand, volley and serving. Once you've got these under your belt, you can experience returning shots, some basic match tactics and get involved in a tournament with players of your level.

Our ‘green group’ coaching sessions are the perfect way to get you hitting balls for the first time. You’ll cover the basics and at the end of the week we host a tournament so you can practice your newly learned skills. You’ll already have an understanding of the basic techniques, movements and rules of the game. Ideally, you can hold a rally of around 6, serve and start a point. You may still be new to the game, or perhaps you haven’t played for a while and you’re a bit rusty. It’s likely you’ve had some coaching before, either in a group or individually, but it may have been some time ago. Either way, you’re keen to refresh your memory and refine your skills.

For you to become a more confident and consistent player, you’ll need to refine your technique. A good place to start is by working on your serve, so you can hit the ball more consistently and with greater accuracy. You’ve probably achieved topspin on a forehand before but you’ll need to master topspin on a backhand. At this level, you’ll need to play more tactically and develop match play strategy.

Our ‘blue group’ coaching sessions are great for intermediate players. Our coaches will work with you in a group setting to refine your technique and help you become a more tactical player. If you’re an advanced player then it’s likely that you play tennis regularly and probably at club or county level. In a match, you’ll have mastered playing a range of shots including topspin forehand and backhand. You’ll have confidence at the net when volleying and your serve will be accurate and consistent too. Ideally, you can hold a rally to 12 consistently using topspin competently off both wings. In a match you’ll play strategically.

At this level, deeper analysis of your technique will help you to play like a pro. You’ll benefit from breaking down your shots so you can see where you need to improve; a lot of players benefit from topspin and slice development. You’ll also want to master patterns of play and match play strategies so you can build and finish points. It’s time to play to win!
