Wakeboarding has seen a surge in popularity in recent years. An inclusive sport at many of our beachclubs, it’s a fantastic way to get on the water, have some fun and get some exercise. Whether you’re looking to try wakeboarding for the first time or you’re a pro looking for the best spot to tweak out some method grabs, location is key. Our pick of the best locations for wakeboarding holidays rounds up the best spots for you to catch your next wake…
Beginners
Paleros - Greece:If it's your first time wakeboarding and you're not sure if it's for you, head to Paleros and the Vounaki Beachclub. You'll get two free tows per week and the opportunity to book more if you find that wakeboarding is for you. There are loads more activities to do beside wakeboarding, including tennis, cycling and stand up paddle boarding, so if being pulled along behind a boat at high speed isn't for you, you're sure to find something else to keep you busy.
Lake Geneva - Switzerland: If you’re taking to the waters for the first time, a holiday with a side-order of wakeboarding is your best bet. The largest lake in central Europe, Lake Geneva is home to a huge number of activities - some on the water, some lake-side. Once you’ve had a couple of practice tows, you’ll be able to enjoy Lake Geneva’s many attractions. Museums, wineries and lake cruises are ideal for a relaxing cultural break and the farms, zoos and waterparks are fantastic if you’ve got little ones in tow. But Lake Geneva’s biggest assets are its views. Wakeboarding with Mont Blanc as your backdrop will really make you feel like a pro - even if you’re not quite there yet.
Lake Bled - Slovenia:This scenic showstopper is overlooked by many holidaymakers, making it a great spot for beginners looking to find their wakeboarding groove - without too many onlookers. Slovenia is home to some beautiful forests, mountains and lakes, of which Lake Bled has to be the most impressive. In the middle of the lake, there’s a castle perched on top of a small island. Off the water, Lake Bled hosts a shoreside annual film festival in June. We can’t imagine a better setting for an open-air cinema - or a better way to round off the day on the lake’s crystal-clear waters.
