The Val di Fassa is one of the most picturesque in the entire 1220km Dolomites ski area. There are lots of small villages and towns along the valley floor, many are well-known, others not so much, but all have easy access to the fantastic snow sure skiing.
Just down the road from lively Canazei is Penia di Canazei, home to the Neilson Hotel Dolomites Inn. The village is surrounded by the towering snow-capped peaks of the Sella Massif and the Marmolada glacier. This is most definitely the place to come if the serenity of the mountains is your form of escapism.
Evenings are quiet in Penia but our Neilson Chalet Hotel Dolomites Inn is a lovely and relaxed place to spend your evenings. Roaring fires, fine wine and some good company are all on the menu.
You still have plenty of choice when it comes to nightlife though. Neighbouring Alba (5-10min walk) has a good selection of bars to visit straight off the slopes. Beyond that, Canazei has some great shopping plus plenty of bars, restaurants and a nightclub. All are accessed either by ski bus or taxis which run right up until 4am.

On the mountain
The stunning Val di Fassa makes a convenient base for exploring the incredible 1220km Dolomites ski area. You're not far from the Marmolada Glacier for guaranteed snow, not that you'll need it as 90% of the slopes in the whole area have snow making.
The Alba-Col dei Rossi gondola in Penia di Canazei and the Pecol Gondola in Canazei drop you right on to the 40km Sella Ronda loop which is an intermediate skier and boarder's heaven. Or for a real test of your skills, try the Volcano black run at Buffaure-Ciampac.

Off the mountain
Val di Fassa makes for a really relaxing holiday thanks to the picture-postcard scenery and natural tranquillity of the mountains. The snowshoeing, cross country skiing and ice climbing are all the better for being surrounded by the snowy mountains and pine forests.
Nightlife in the valley is hugely varied. Penia is low-key, but neighbouring Alba (a 10 minute walk away) has a few bars and restaurants to choose from. Or if you’re looking for more choice, hop in a cab and head to Canazei which is just 3km away. Cabs run through the night, so there's no chance of getting stranded.
