Why I Love Levante
Sarah works in our contact centre here in the UK and is a massive fan of Levante Beach Beachclub.
Rhodes must be my absolute favourite of all the Greek islands. The island offers a little something for everyone with wind, heritage, great food and great people. What more could you want from your holiday?
The location of Levante is just great, in the mornings you’ll find the sea breeze blows gently cross onshore, perfect for learning something new maybe sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding or kayaking… you choose! The afternoons tend to switch to stronger offshore winds for the more intermediate and advanced watersports enthusiasts. Rhodes benefits from the famous Meltemi winds in the middle of summer, offering the perfect playground for wind sports.
If water and wind isn’t your thing, no problem at all, the island has plenty of road cycling and mountain biking routes to discover the beaches and ancient castle ruins.
What to see and do outside of the Beachclub
The local town Kolympia, just a 15 minute walk away, has a host of local Greek restaurants, shops and somewhere for a fruity tipple if that’s your thing! I couldn’t recommend enough making a trip to Nissaki one evening, a local fish restaurant where you can enjoy your evening overlooking the bay. Or heading in the other direction, slightly away from the local town you’ll find Shark Fish Restaurant, another great option for an evening with great locally caught seafood and friendly service right on the beach.
Venturing out of the beachclub is made super easy by the bus stop just outside of the neighbouring hotel, with regular buses running north to Rhodes town or the south of the island including a stop at Lindos. A trip to Lindos is a must for your holiday, a quaint town with lots of local shops, markets, restaurants and the Lindos Acropolis if you fancy a bit of culture whilst you’re there. The town is completely pedestrianised, so you’ll find no cars or traffic disturbing the peaceful atmosphere. If you’re after a good spot for sunbathing and a dip in picturesque waters, head over to Saint Paul's Bay. The Chapel by the bay is a popular spot for weddings on the island too!
If you’ve got a car for the day, a trip to the Valley of the Butterflies is an amazing experience with hundreds of different types of butterflies covering the trees and trails that you can follow around the park. Make sure to visit the park between June and September to see the best of the butterflies.
For those windsurfers and kitesurfers that fancy a change of scenery, head down to Prasonisi on the very southern tip of the island, where you’ll find a little watersports haven. The spot is super unique with waves on one side and flat shallow water on the other and a lovely sandy spit dividing the two spots. You’ll also pass the Mojito bar (Best Mojitos in Rhodes) which is well signposted and worth a quick detour on route back to the beachclub.
Top tips for your holiday
With so much to choose from, it's difficult to narrow things down, but here are a few of my top tips for any holiday to Levante Beachclub.
- The Sunrise over the water at Levante is incredible, it's worth waking up early to catch the sunrise one day.
- If you’re a water skier or wakeboarder you’ll want to head down to the beach early for the flattest water before the wind arrives.
- Hike up Tsambika Chapel, the views from the top are stunning. Ask the locals and they’ll tell you all of the many miracles of the Chapel.
- If you go out for dinner at Nissaki, the Symi island shrimps are a particular favourite of mine sourced from Symi Island just off Rhodes.
- If you notice that at mid-afternoon the wind suddenly dies and starts to swirl around, get yourself down to the beach and grab a boat or a windsurf and get ready, as this usually means the wind is coming for a great afternoon on the water!
