Marcus Vaughan, Guest Services Manager at La Pared has been enjoying life on the sunshine island of Fuerteventura since we opened our doors for the first time in December.
A little bit about me
I started my journey studying Sports Performance, Development & Coaching. I always had a keen interest in travel, experiencing Camp America and I had theopportunity to coordinate an Outdoor School Program in the Rocky Mountains. After my stint in America, I headed over to Australia and before too long, my visa was up, so I was looking for my next adventure and headed back to the UK.
In 2019, on a whim, I applied for a job with Neilson, within a week I'd had my interview and was on a plane to Greece, where I began my Neilson journey working in Vounaki Beachclub as a Lifeguard.
Since then, I have fallen in love with the holidays and service we offer at Neilson. The wonderful community feel the business has created is clear from the number of returning guests and staff.
I am currently based in La Pared, Fuerteventura as the Guest Service Manager.
Why I love La Pared
How could I say no to La Pared? The promise of a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with consistent, warm sunshine, inclusive Neilson activities and some exciting new sports, like surfing, was a dream come true.
As there is no specific transfer day, I have really enjoyed the more bespoke experience we have managed to offer guests here at La Pared. I love being able to get to know each guest personally so I can act quickly to their needs and help with anything they ask and of course, enjoy a social beer or two with them.
One of the more unique aspects of La Pared is surfing. Whether you’re a beginner (like me) or a total pro the on-site surf school is brilliant! They use our local beach, La Pared, so the surf is literally on our doorstep. It's my number one choice when I have some free time. I highly recommend it!
I would also recommend hiring a car and doing some exploring.Whether you want to go windsurfing, kitesurfing or just relax I would check out the south of the island, there are so many great beaches around, some of my favourites are Esquinzo, Jandia and Morro Jable.
It's not all beaches, there are also some fantastic restaurants and lovely towns where you get to experience the local culture.
And If you enjoy a good sunset this is the place to be! It doesn’t get much better than here in La Pared. I’ve spent many evenings, down by the cliff tops looking out as the final surfers return to the beach as the sun goes down, it's spectacular and not to be missed.
