When you picture your dream ski holiday, chances are it will include your friends and/or family. Group ski holidays epitomise what a ski holiday is all about: whether its skiing or snowboarding together, sitting around a log fire or indulging in some après fun, group ski trips are a must.
So if you’re thinking of booking a group ski holiday to Europe, you have to consider St Anton, Les Deux Alpes, El Tarter, Les Arcs and Sauze d’Oulx – they’ve made it on to our list and for good reason. Here’s why:
St Anton in Austria
Let us present to you St Anton, a resort known for its 300km+ of widely varied slopes made for intermediate and advancedskiers and boarders alike. An alpine village in the truest sense withan incredible après-ski and social scene beneath its serene charm.
Two big reasons to visit here for a group ski holiday are the fact that it’s both noticeably cheaper and quieter (on the mountain)than its French counterparts. You can expect to pay less for beer and food, whilst enjoying more room to manoeuvre on the Austrian slopes - particularly at higher altitudes – making it the dream setting for groups.
Our St Anton chalets, from the large Chalet Gertrud Gabl (up to 16 people) to the more intimate Chalet Mini Gabl (up to 4 people), are tailored specifically to groups and even include their own private sauna or hot tub.
Les Deux Alpes in France
Getting a group of skiers to agree on dates and resort preferences can be tough. That said, one thing you will all definitely agree on is wanting snow, and lots of it. Step forward Les Deux Alpes, a resort stretching up to 3600m and promising snow all year round. Well it is Europe's highest skiable glacier!
Groups of friends will love Pub Windsor, a British themed pub offering over 100 types of beers. For larger groups, Neilson Chalet Chartreuse is the ideal place to set up base. Sleeping up to 18 people, it’s a homely, rustic chalet that welcomes its residents with a roaring open fire.
We’ll admit it, the Chartreuse is one of our best chalets in one of our favourite resorts. Pair this with free lift pass up for grabs when 12+ people book a trip and you’re onto a winner.
El Tarter in Andorra
El Tarter’s wide and well-groomed slopes climb up to over 2500m, meaning snow remains settled here well after other European resorts have thawed out. It’s a great place for a more relaxed, laid back group ski holiday with a small selection of great bars and restaurants.
For a spot of decadence, head to the bar at Neilson Hotel Del Clos for a perfectly mixed cocktail or two. Those travelling in family groups will benefit from free area lift passes for children under 12.
Large groups and company ski trips should take note of the Neilson Chalet Hotel Casale, a property that can accommodate up to 38 guests with the exclusivity (and wine with dinner) of a chalet but the facilitiesof a hotel as it has its own bar.
If you’ve never skied in Andorra, the great thing about it is that the ski area and runs are made for beginners, intermediates and advanced levels, making it a firm favourite for groups that want a variety of pistes to suit everyone.
Les Arcs in France
425km of pistes, cosy catered ski chalets, a fully-staffed kids club for little ones: what’s not to love about group ski trips to Les Arcs?!
If that hasn’t sold Les Arcs to you already, picture skiing under the lights at nightbefore heading off to a rustic mountain restaurant to warm your cockles. What’s more, the impressive Vanoise Express double-decker cable car carries up to 200 passengers from Les Arcs across to La Plagne, meaning the whole group can experience the incredible views and fun that comes from skiing back across the mountains together.
The Neilson Chalet Renardsleeps up to 15 people and includes a large fireplace, outdoor hot tub and is located just 100m from the lifts.
Sauze d’Oulx in Italy
Last but by no means least isSauze d’Oulx.
Here you’ll find some of Europe’s most legendary mountain nightlife, making it a great place for groups of friends, families or colleagues to let their hair down at the end of a day carving up the snow. Enjoy live music and DJ sets or head to the resort’s old town for some authentic wine bars and restaurants.
The area’s abundance of sun has earned it the nickname ‘Sunny Sauze’, meaning groups looking to stop for a long lunch and a mid-ski beer in the sun will be more than satisfied. Check out Neilson Chalet Le Valentin for its incredible views, sumptuous chalet catered food and close proximity to the ski bus stop.
